Where can I get a kids bike petal?

My son's bike petal fell off his bike and I cannot find one to replace it anywhere, I tried wal-mart and ebay. The bike is just a little cheap one made by Huffy, so I don't want to pay more for the petal than the bike is worth. Thanks

I hear you . Big pedals hit the ground. Small pedals just aren't sold. I assume you don't have the time nor temperament to garbage pick. (maybe your best source!) so check yard sales, ask neighbors too (for junk bikes). You also could contact Huffy for replacements, it's a hassle for a pedal though. Altimately you may do what most parents end up doing buy a new bike...
Reply:Hmmm......every Walmart I've been to has both 1/2" and 9/16" thread pedals....just cheapies like what probably came on his bike. You might try another Walmart store, or a Target, Ace hardware, or large sporting goods store. A bike shop is sure to have one, too.

If you can, take the old pedal or the whole bike with you so you can be sure to get the right thread. Most bikes use the standard, larger 9/16" thread but the 1/2" is common on kid's and department store bikes. You'll probably need a thin 15mm pedal wrench to put it on properly, and the left and right pedals are different. Normal mechanic's wrenches and adjustable wrenches are too fat to fit into the space between the pedal body and the crankarm. You want to be sure you can install it tight so it doesn't come loose and ruin the crankarm threads while he's riding.
Reply:Check your local bike shop, they probably have some cheap ones or possibly a junked out kids' bike that they can take it off of.
