How to make a homemade stationary bikes without bike trainer?

i have no problem to build the base and the hang for the bike, but how can i make a mechanism that will make the petal harder to push? any ideas?

Go with what crosamich said. I would've said the same thing. He's being logical, but I know that being logical is sometimes not fun (isn't it great building something that you can use? I know the feeling!).





You'd just have to hook something up to it to slow it down, either by friction or weight (requires more umph to spin a heavier weight). It depends on how you're building the thing.
Reply:you are better off just buying a trainer. They are on sale everywhere because no one buys them right now. It would be much more reliable and dependable. By the time you spent the $ on materials and time, you could have found one on Craigslist or something for the same $
Reply:Hey the generator idea sounds good. I saw it on Gilligan's Island once. Then you can sell the electricity back to the utilities or power a fan to cool you down.





Hey fan, that's a better idea, hook it up with a belt and pully to a fan. The faster you pedal the hotter you get and the fast the fan turns keeping you cool! PERFECT!
