I have as 2000 grand am that lately to get it started i have to hold the gas petal down.what is wrong?

it is either your fuel injectors are dirty or the throttle positioning sensor get some good fuel injector cleaner like lucas and pour into the gas tank this will clean them out and you can go to autozone or most car parts and have them check the sensor for you for free

you need to get that checked out, it sounds like your fuel injector is shot.
Reply:You bought a grand am.
Reply:Clogged fuel injectors?
Reply:Change your fuel filter every 20000 miles. But that is your problem.
Reply:It could be your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Not hard to check, need a Repair Manual and Multi-Test Meter (Volt/OHM). Some Parts stores like Auto-Zone may test it for you. It about $25 if that the problem.
Reply:if u have to hold it all the way down its flooded i don't know why if this is happening
Reply:choke ,,,,automatic choke is stuck....probably take it to a mechanic or get a chiltons and do it yourself
