I was contemplating getting a lotus tattoo. I really like what they stand for and how they look. I am in the preliminary stages of looking for designs and i was wondering if anyone knew if there were different significances, if so what are they?

The closed lotus represents potential. Depending on the number of petals, the lotus' symbolism changes, shaped by the symbolism of the number. Four petals refer to the human lifespan. Five petals refer to the five senses. With eight petals, it represents cosmic harmony and the Noble Eightfold Path in Buddhism, with 1,000 petals it means spiritual revelation.
Different colors also have different meanings.
White - mental purity
Red - Love and compassion
Blue - Wisdom over passion
Pink - Supreme perfection, Buddha's lotus
